A restaurant of pilgrimage refuses to knuckle-under to Woakist demands calling for menu language revisionism, provoked by Gypsie Cutlett and Negro Kiss:

    Ostsee: „Zigeuner“ und „Neger“ müssen herhalten – Kult-Lokal provoziert ohne Gnade (msn.com)

There is now a consensus that terms like “Gypsy” and “Negro” are not part of an enlightened society in 2024, and all without the “language police” who supposedly want to distribute muzzles. One would think so. On the Baltic Sea you still see yourself as being on the right side.
In “Grandma’s Kitchen” in Binz they not only use the wrong apostrophe, but also use language that is no longer up to date. According to the advertising board, “gypsy schnitzel” and “afterwards there is a Negro kiss” with a smiling smiley land on the plate. The Federal Agency for Civic Education finds clear words about terms like they can be read on their menu board on the Baltic Sea shore.

“The aim is to use language that is characterized by respectful interaction with each other without discrimination,” it says on the company’s own website, and it is recommended to use “Roma and Sinti” instead of “Gypsies”.

According to the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, the following applies to the “N-word”: “‘Why shouldn’t I say the word?’ Because behind this word are 400 years of enslavement. Because White people have used this word to dehumanize Black people globally. Because that word is a symbol of white supremacy.”

The proprietor of “Grandma’s Kitchen” views it completely differently. She told the “Ostsee-Zeitung” (OZ) that she “doesn’t want to be told what to do and what not to do.” The 68-year-old makes clear what is obvious: “We have our very own view of things.” And that's why the police even patronized to this Baltic Sea restaurant.

There are currently plentyof complaints - the officials are said to have left it at a conversation level because of the "lack of objective facts". In fact, the terms as they can currently be read on the Baltic Sea on Rügen can be used without criminal consequences - as long as they are not specifically aimed at people who feel attacked because of their origin. “Grandma’s Kitchen” is unlikely to have installed the board accidentally and without any purpose.
