A jury found Timothy Williams guilty on all three counts of second-degree murder in the 1984 rape and murder of 14-year-old Wendy Jerome.
"Justice delayed was not going to be justice denied for Wendy," said District Attorney Sandra Doorley. "After almost 40 years, we were able to get justice for her."
Williams was the first person to go on trial in New York with an arrest that relied on what is called "familial DNA." The state's highest court, the Court of Appeals, last year allowed the use of the DNA technology in a narrow ruling.
Police arrested Williams after the state conducted a familial DNA search on evidence from the homicide. The state crime lab used the preserved DNA to see if it could develop a familial profile, which allows police to narrow a list of possible suspects.
During the trial, Williams took the stand, saying that he had consensual sex with Jerome and did not hurt her, as reported by WHAM-TV (Channel 13). He said he was fearful he would be charged with rape if he told police of the sex.

That second case reminds me of when I was sent out to a scrapyard, somewhere around Pontiac, Michigan in the early 80s, for disposing of a couple vehicles parted out at the company I was working for. As I drove by the wrecks that were in there, I could smell what smelled like rotting meat. If everyone else there either just noticed it and drove away, after having dumped their stuff, or simply didn't give it a thought, as if something like that was normal, anyone stupid enough to trunk somebody and then waiting for its vehicle to get crushed and then melted down, that person would have commited a perfect crime.
That shop owner in that video would have had the same opportunity which would have been less stupid to do, than to bury someone in his own property
