A Dubuque man charged in the stabbing death of his girlfriend early Friday is being held on a $1 million cash-only bond.

Fontae C. Buelow, 25, of 974 Edmore Lane, made an initial appearance Saturday morning at the Dubuque County Law Enforcement Center. He faces charges of first-degree murder and possession of a controlled substance.

Buelow’s possession charge alleges he had cocaine. Chapin noted Buelow has five previous drug arrests in Iowa, as well as a felony drug charge from an incident in Missouri.

Buelow was one of five Dubuque-area residents arrested in July in Camden County, Mo., after officers investigating a noise complaint at a hotel allegedly found cocaine, marijuana, prescription drugs and drug paraphernalia.
