Neighbors question judicial system after Marlboro Co. murder suspect was out on prior bond

Damn, that is one ugly burner.

Over the weekend, deputies charged 37-year-old Colin Sedrick Bruce with murder in the death of 30-year-old Brittney Bailey.

Last Friday, law enforcement got a call just after 12:30 p.m. in reference to a 3-year-old child wandering in the roadway on Cheryl Street.

Deputies said when they arrived on the scene, they were notified by the citizens who assisted the child, that he was relaying to them that his mother was hurt in the home.

According to Chief Deputy Larry Turner with Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office, the child then advised officers of the same information at which time EMS was called and deputies entered the home. Turner added it was determined the child’s mother was dead, and that led to a death investigation.
He’s been booked on the following charges:

First Degree Murder
Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime
Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
Unlawful Neglect Placing a Child at Risk
Bruce was currently out on bond for arrests from December and February totaling $27,000 for the following pending charges with the same victim:

Assault & Battery second Degree - $10,000
Kidnapping - $10,000
Petit Larceny - $2,000
Assault & Battery 3rd Degree - $5,000
An incident report from September of 2023 said Bruce choked Bailey.

The report said, "Ms. Bailey said that at one point she could feel herself losing oxygen and that she thought that she may would lose consciousness."

The report said Bruce held Bailey "against her will."
