It's a controversial theory among Democrats nationally, but that didn't stop U.S. Rep. Danny Davis on Tuesday from blaming his party for costing Hillary Clinton the presidency by failing to spend an extra "$3 or $4 million" on getting out the black vote.
"If we'd put a million dollars on the ground in Philadelphia, a million dollars on the ground in Milwaukee, a million dollars on the ground in Detroit, (then) in all likelihood we'd be talking about President Clinton and not President (Donald) Trump," Davis, 75, told the City Club of Chicago.
Davis later told Chicago Inc. that while he didn't necessarily believe that Democrats took the black vote for granted, they failed to adopt the methods he believed would have worked best. He said he's been telling party operatives that "they made mistakes in terms of not putting enough money into what motivates African-American communities — somebody out knocking on their door, talking to them, telling them, 'You need to go vote.'
