Manhunt launched for Nashville police chief's son suspected in shooting of 2 Tennessee officers

Police in Tennessee launched a search Saturday for a suspect alleged to have shot and wounded two police officers in a community near Nashville.

The two officers were transported to a hospital and listed in stable condition following the shooting in La Vergne shortly before 2:30 p.m., La Vergne Police Chief Christopher Moews said during a press briefing.

Police identified the suspect as John C. Drake, Jr., 38, who is the son of Metro Nashville Police Department Chief John Drake.

The police chief issued a statement Saturday confirming his son was the suspect in the shooting. Drake said they were estranged and over many years he has had only minimal contact with his son. The younger Drake is a convicted felon who “resorted to years of criminal activity,” he said.


The shooting occurred at a Dollar General store while officers were investigating a stolen vehicle. The officers struggled with the suspect, who pulled a handgun and shot them, Moews said.

In most of the encounters seen on video, the rabid nog either grabs or is unfased by the taser as well. It's long past due for a new solution to wrangling savannah beasts.

This is another one of those stories where public comments are sickening. Yes, I know the nigger criminal is middle aged, but this is typical fatherless behavior. Not a single bit of accountability beat into it from an early age. Now we have two shot up police officers.

Nashville Police Chief's Son, Wanted In Shooting Of 2 Officers, Found Dead



The estranged son of Nashville’s police chief, who was wanted in the shooting of two Tennessee police officers over the weekend, has been found dead after a four-day manhunt, authorities said.

John Drake Jr., 38, died Tuesday night from a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound in Nashville, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a statement.


Drake is believed to have shot himself in a backyard shed following a brief police chase. Authorities say he stole a car at gunpoint at 6 p.m. and then crashed the vehicle while pursued by police. He then fled on foot into the shed.

“While officers were surrounding the residence to contain the shed, a gunshot was heard, and it appears he had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Nashville Metro Police spokesman Don Aaron told local station WSMV-TV.
