A man believed to be responsible for the murders of two women in Birmingham has been arrested.
Birmingham Police Department Chief Scott Thurmond announced the arrest of 25-year-old Demarchies Mincey Friday morning.
He's currently being held at the Dekalb County Jail there on unrelated charges he faces in Georgia but Thurmond says BPD investigators were able to connect him to the murders of 31-year-old Ariel Jones and 31-year-old Jermeria Fowler in April and June.
Police found Fowler's burned body on June 1 off Sellers Road in the Roebuck neighborhood after she was reported missing the day before.
An autopsy revealed she had been shot.
Detectives determined Mincey to be a suspect in her death and they obtained a warrant for murder and abuse of a corpse.
In their investigation, Thurmond says detectives were also able to identify Mincey as a suspect in the murder of Ariel Jones.
Jones' body was found on April 18 on 5th Avenue North and police were able to determine she had been shot before her body was also burned.
