A grand jury in Putnam County has indicted a man in the murder of a pregnant Daytona Beach woman, found dead and partially burned in a cemetery there nearly eight years ago.
Shaquierra Pinckney was 22 when she left home, then disappeared after posting an ad online. Detectives with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and her family never gave up hope someone would be held accountable.
Herbert Pinckney says his daughter Shaquierra Pinckney was a real joy. She'd recently moved back to her parent's home in Daytona Beach, pregnant and with two young daughters, to be closer to family. On August 30, 2015, Shaquierra Pinckney went out and never came home. Days later, her badly burned body was found in a Putnam County cemetery. Investigators say she'd been gagged, killed, then set on fire. This week, a grand jury there indicted 42-year-old Lorenzo Hudson on a host of charges, including two counts of first-degree murder.
In announcing the indictment against suspect Hudson, DeLoach thanked the multiple agencies that worked this cold case. Shaquierra Pinckney disappeared from Daytona Beach. Her vehicle was found in St. Johns County and her body in Putnam. The sheriff believes the young mother met her accused killer on the adult website Backpage.com. “Pinckney was known to access and place photos online on the then-popular adult website. We believe Hudson also utilized this website to solicit sex and that is how the pair met,” DeLoach said.
Suspect Hudson, who lived less than a mile away from the cemetery where the victim was found, is serving five years in prison on unrelated burglary and grand theft charges. He was scheduled to be released in December. Shaquierra Pinckney's loved ones are relieved Hudson was identified before he was freed.
