Backstory, when I owned my business, one of my sales reps was a guy about 10 years older than me. We will call him Ted. Guy was a wealth of knowledge and frankly, I couldn't have gotten to the level I had, without Ted. We were a fairly small staff, usually less than 10 people at any given time. I paid well, took care of my employee's and we were more or less a family. Which is why, when I stepped back, I gave the company to my employee's. So, Ted worked for me for roughly 15 years. He was somewhat of a mentor, he had 3 kids, Julia, Nick and Megan. I knew these kids well, watched them grow up. When my daughter had cancer, Julia and Megan (who were roughly 13 and 9 years older than my daughter respectfully) became very close to my family. His daughters were at the hospital all the time, visiting our home, etc. Just super good kids.
Then all of them went off to college....
We received a wedding invite back in June for Megan's wedding. I called Ted, told him congrats on the wedding and asked if there was anything I can help with, as I said, I owe this man and his family, tremendously. He just said "Hey, NTG, good to hear from you, we have things covered, I will let you know if we need anything". Proceeded to chit-chat for a bit and that was that. Initially, the wedding was booked at a very fancy hall, followed by a reception on the upper level of said hall. We are talking at least 40K for just the venue. I had been there a few times for benefits, it's absolutely stunning. I talked to my kids and only my daughter wanted to go, my son was more interested in playing video games, so my daughter was my +1.
We sent our RSVP, then about a month after that we got another wedding invite, this time, with a note saying "Due to circumstances, we had to change venues, here is the new address". Now, this place I had to look up, frankly, it was the equivalent of a Union Hall (not that there is anything wrong with it, but to go from the Ritz to this was kind of shocking). This new venue was in downtown Minneapolis, a place I hate going to. I spoke to my daughter, we came up with a game plan that we would grab a room nearby and just take a cab too and from (In Minneapolis, you can at least pick your Cabbie, Uber/Lift just throws a jig at you). Frankly, I was excited. I knew that Ted's whole family will be there, I was excited that my daughter would get to see her friends from childhood (it's been a few years since they all were together) and I was excited to spend some one on one time with my daughter most of all.
Day comes, we zip over to the hotel, check in, get ready and hop a cab to the venue. We walked into the place and I was a bit confused. There was about a dozen jigs out front, dressed like they were going to some inner city prom, each one more boisterous than the next. I knew the venue had several halls and just figured it was a nigger funeral or something going on in one of the other halls. In the back of my head though, I kept thinking to myself, why are they doing this wedding here? Ted and his wife easily make 300K a year, she is the lead anesthesiologist at a local hospital. We walk in, see a sign with Megan and her fiancés name on it, name looked normal, I honestly can't remember it, it was like Norman or Elliot. As we are heading that direction, my daughter grabs my hand and says "Dad, there is Ted!", who was just standing there, with a blank look on his face. My daughter, runs up, gives him a hug and asks where his wife and the kids were, he just said "Honey, they couldn't make it." I looked at him and said "Ted, what the hell is going on? What do you mean the mother of the bride and the brides siblings couldn't make it..." Ted just said, "Follow me..." We walked over to a room, that had a sign saying "Bridal Party", Ted knocked on the door. A lightskinned sheboon in a teal dress answered it, saw Ted and let us in. "Oh fuck...." I thought to myself. Boom, there is little Megan, a kid who spent countless nights at my home, sitting in a white dress. Her hair was all in braids, in what my daughter called a "Bee-hive up do". She saw us, hopped out of her chair, yelled "You guys made it! We had to change the venue and a lot of people couldn't be here!" She gave us a hug, said she had to finish getting ready and that we will catch up at the reception.
We walked out, the entire time, I was completely blown away by what I had just witnessed. As we were walking out, Ted filled us in. Megan was initially engaged to be married to a guy named Brian, that was the "Fancy" hall wedding that we got the invite to. Brian walked in on her with Norman/Elliot or whatever having sex with Megan. Megan demanded that Norman/Elliot marry her instead, hoping people wouldn't notice the name switch and that was the secondary invites that went out. Ted's wife and other children, refused to have anything to do with Megan or this bullshit wedding. Ted apologized several times, thinking he reached out to me. He was the ONLY one of her family there and he was basically playing security, trying to get friends/family away before they realized what was going on. I told him to take care and keep in touch, he said the minute the wedding was going to start, he was going to leave as well and that was that.
We walked out of the hall, after being there for roughly 15 minutes. Was able to grab a table at a fantastic restaurant, spent the night catching up with my daughter about things. She was just blown away by what we witnessed. She is aware of the beast (when she had cancer, we successfully were able to get a sheboon nurse fired, for being rough on her, "missing" her veins, etc). I got back to my room and realized the Wedding Card I was going to give Megan was still in my jacket pocket. I opened up the card, took out the cash and tossed the card into the garbage. I got a call from Ted asking if we were still in the city, he was around the corner at a different hotel, drinking at the bar. I put my jacket on and walked over.
He was already drunk. Ted just kept muttering about how he didn't raise his kids like that, how could she sully his family, how he was done paying her way. Etc. I kept telling him, it really wasn't his fault, that this shit happens. Tik Tok, Liberal Colleges, Social Media, Entertainment Industry, etc just push this shit on our kids. Entire time, Ted's phone is ringing off the hook from Megan, demanding he come back, that he was embarrassing her, etc... I finally got Ted to bed and went back to my room as well. I laid in my bed, thinking about how this plague is upon our children, that this bestiality is being shoved down their throats every which direction. Frankly, my heart was broken for Ted, he is a good father, he never deserved this. But he is right, Megan wrote her own check and now she has to cash it.
Then all of them went off to college....
