A former Oviedo High School janitor accused of videotaping students with a cellphone hidden inside a bathroom stall in 2019 has been found guilty at trial, federal prosecutors said Thursday.
Derremy Jerrell Walker, a 31-year-old Sanford resident, will face sentencing Sept. 21 after a jury in Orlando voted to convict him on two counts of using children to produce sexually explicit videos, according to the office of Acting U.S. Attorney Karin Hoppmann.
Prosecutors said Walker was a janitor at Oviedo High in November 2019 when a pair of 15-year-old girls found a cellphone hidden under a sink in a student bathroom toilet stall. The phone had been recording video for about 15 minutes when the girls found it, authorities said.
All three times, Walker “had angled the cellphone’s camera in an effort to capture the genitalia and pubic areas of those in the stall,” according to Amy Filjones, a spokesperson for Hoppmann. “School administration officials and law enforcement officers were able to identify six of the ten students unknowingly captured in the videos Walker created.”
