Former UH football player identified as Midtown murder victim

A man found shot to death at a high-rise apartment in Midtown Houston has been identified as a former member of the UH Cougars and Spring High School football teams.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences identified the victim from a deadly shooting early Wednesday as 22-year-old Ka'Darian Smith.

According to police, Smith called his friends saying he had been shot on the 12th floor of his apartment complex in the 2800 block of Fannin.

The friends arrived to his apartment about 30 minutes later and were able to move him downstairs while they waited on an ambulance. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

UH cornerback Ka'Darian Smith arrested, charged with assault


Houston cornerback Ka’Darian Smith was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with serious bodily harm of a 60-year-old man during the team’s open date.



Smith, 21, is accused of assaulting Thaddeus Lewis, who was transported to an area hospital “and is expected to survive his injuries,” according to a Houston Police Department report.

Officers responded to an assault call at an apartment complex at 3509 Elgin Street around 9:10 a.m. on Nov. 6. Lewis was found with injuries to his upper body and head, the report said. Smith returned to the scene and later admitted to his role in the assault.
