An on-duty Maryland Transit Administration police officer was knocked unconscious on Friday afternoon near a subway station in West Baltimore, according to officials and a social media post.
MTA spokeswoman Veronica Battisti confirmed Saturday morning that a suspect was taken into custody in the assault on an officer at the Upton Metro Station. The officer had been transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Battisti did not provide additional information about the suspect.
A photo that surfaced online Friday afternoon showed an officer unconscious and slumped against a wall, with a caption showing that it happened in the 1700 block of Pennsylvania Ave. Later, video of the incident began circulating widely on social media, depicting people standing over the officer saying he was “always talking [expletive]" and got “knocked the [expletive] out." In another clip, city officers can be seen tending to him while the man filming says they are “next.”
