I have never fully understood the BBC. My dad explained it to me when I was around 10 and I was befuddled by it then and I still am now. I was watching old Benny Hill reruns and we started talking about the BBC. He told me that the BBC was basically owned by the government and that they taxed you for each TV you owned and that was how they generated the revenue to produce the shows even going as far as to go to your house to count your TV's and would levy heavy penalties for cheaters. I thought it was odd and asked if that is where they got their news as well. He said yes. It made no sense to me because to me it seemed that in doing so, they were engaged in the very same socialism and propaganda practices that they had been fighting against starting in Germany, Italy, the Soviet Block etc. for decades since WW2. He explained that there still is no such thing as freedom of speech or a free press there like we won during the Revolutionary War.
