IMO, all one needs is a .357 and a 9mm. Ruger just released a heavy duty 9mm pistol (https://ruger.com/products/pcCharger/models.html). As for the .357, you can load it with .357 magnum or .38 special, and if you go the .38 route, you might as well get the cheapest .357 you can find.

If you can stand the weight, noise, and recoil of a .357, and you like revolvers, why not get a .45 long Colt? It weighs the same, is quieter, has softer recoil and a fat slow bullet that hits like a hammer and doesn't over-penetrate. On the other hand, what do I know? You get what you like. But seriously, try a Smith and Wesson Model 25 some time. That's one sweet revolver.
