Billions of locusts are eating everything in sight in east Africa right now, and every single day many more farms are being completely wiped out.

But it is difficult to imagine conditions getting any worse than they are at this moment. Even before 2020 began, millions upon millions of Africans were dealing with “acute hunger”, and the outlook for the coming year was grim. But now nobody has any idea how there will possibly be enough food for everyone.

Australia is the hottest, driest continent on Earth and always has been since at least the beginning European colonisation. (and obviously well before) We have always experienced cyclical periods of drought. Yet most of us, most of the time can maintain an abundance of fresh potable water to not only drink, wash and bathe in, but water our gardens, wash our cars and flush our shithouses.
