3 Mohammedans jailed for plotting Christmas terrorist attack (involving machetes, improvised bombs and suicide vests) in Melbourne's Federation Square

A lengthy trial heard Ahmed Mohamed, Abdullah Chaarani and Hamza Abbas had purchased machetes as well as metal pipes, light globes and batteries to make explosives and had tried to obtain guns as they planned to attack people at Federation Square.

Abdullah Chaarani and Ahmed Mohamed were each jailed for 38 years, with a non-parole period of 28 years.

Hamza Abbas, was jailed for 22 years, with a non-parole period of 16 years and six months.
