Arrests made in connection to Harrisburg murder
The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office has charged three people in connection with a shooting that left one person dead and another injured in Harrisburg on December 28.
The sheriff’s office issued a press release this afternoon, Friday, Jan. 4:
The suspects and charges are:
Whigger, Nicholas John Carl Brooks, 17, of Harrisburg, charged Friday with murder and conspiracy to commit a felony. He is being held under no bond and is scheduled for a first court appearance on Monday, Jan. 7.
Jaylen Dashawn Tyson, 19, of Charlotte, charged Friday with murder and conspiracy to commit a felony. He is being held under no bond and is scheduled for a first court appearance on Monday, Jan. 7.
Joenel Santiago, 17, of Harrisburg, charged Friday with conspiracy to commit a felony. He is being held on a $20,000 bond and had a first court appearance on Friday.
On Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at approximately 9:50 p.m., the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office received calls from several Harrisburg residents who heard gunshots near their homes.
Deputies responded to the area and while attempting to locate the source of the gunfire, they were advised of a suspicious vehicle at Harrisburg Park, 250 Sims Parkway. Upon arrival, deputies discovered two victims with gunshot wounds.
Detectives and crime scene investigators with the Sheriff’s Office responded to the park and processed the scene, where they located the victim’s vehicle.
Investigators received help from the public and other sources in identifying the suspects in the case, according to Cabarrus County Sheriff Van W. Shaw. The victims and suspects knew each other, and the crime was an isolated incident, Shaw added.
