A man who thought he’d be receiving a PlayStation 4 from a nigger he met online instead spent $160 on a box of rocks, police say.
Jasean Kelvin Henderson, is accused of running the scam earlier this month.
Gastonia Police say the 16-year-old listed the gaming console for sale online and agreed to meet a Mount Holly man at the CDA Store parking lot at 505 Union Road around 5:10 p.m. Dec. 6.
Once there, the man, Paul Engle, gave Henderson $160 in exchange for the box, which Engle thought contained the PlayStation, according to police records. Henderson fled on foot before Engle learned of the scam.
It was reported to police about 20 minutes after the swap occurred, according to a police report from the incident.
It isn’t the first time Henderson has been accused of scamming someone he met online.
By the time police charged Henderson Tuesday, he had already been in jail four days on a separate charge. Gastonia police say a woman agreed to sell a cellphone to him in the same store parking lot.
When the woman arrived to complete the transaction, he allegedly robbed her instead.
The Gastonia Police Department hosts an Internet Exchange Zone, where transactions can be completed under the watch of law enforcement.
Henderson now faces charges of first-degree robbery, simple assault and felony obtaining property by false pretense.
His bond was raised by $10,000 on Tuesday to $60,000.
