Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook identified the name of a man who has been named a suspect in the 2015 shooting death of 14-year-old Najeer Buggs.
Holbrook said 28-year-old Leonard Mickens will be charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in Buggs' death.
Mickens’ DNA was found on .40 caliber spent shell casing. The gun in Najeer’s death was also used in a June 2015 attempted murder in Richland County, Chief Holbrook said. Mickens is also charged in a Lexington County murder from 2015 as of last week.
