A Macon County grandmother is dead, and her granddaughter is behind bars after a shooting on their way to a family funeral over the weekend.

Ruth Pearl Pierson, 58, was killed in the shooting, said Macon County Sheriff Andre Brunson. Her granddaughter, 22-year-old Stephanie Pierson, is in jail awaiting formal murder charges which are expected to be obtained today.


investigators don't yet know what started the altercation between the two.
