Several ounces of marijuana are now in the hands of law enforcement.
Investigators said they found the pot in a passenger's luggage at the Pitt-Greenville Airport over the weekend. Fatar Dayshawn Weems, 25, was headed to JFK Airport in Washington Saturday morning. Airport officials alert officers of a strong smell after Weems checked his bag.
Officers said they found 3.5 ounces of marijuana as well as $28,000 in cash.
"We have two officers that are assigned to the airport and so in this instance, the situation worked like it should have and we've gotten some drugs off the street," said Pitt County Sheriff's Office Maj. Paula Dance.
Officers arrested Weems and he was not allowed to board his plane. A judge on Monday set Weems' bond at $10,000.
