Pastor Terry Banks has ignited some controversy after saying he believes the Lincoln Park Fire Department allowed his house to burn longer than it should have because he is black.
The News-Herald was unable to reach Banks, but he spoke with The Detroit News about the incident at his house in the 26500 block of Outer Drive.
Banks said the firefighters appeared to be moving slower than typical, and that at one point, he heard one of them use a racial slur. He was unable to identify which firefighter issued the alleged comment.
“I believe if I was a Caucasian pastor standing up there, they would have put that fire out immediately,” Banks told The Detroit News.
