A yearlong drug investigation in Southern Pines and Moore County ended with the arrests of seven people and the seizure of 44 pounds of cocaine, two pounds of crystal methamphetamine and five ounces of heroin, police said Wednesday.

Lawmen also seized $85,000 and a vehicle after executing search warrants Tuesday and Wednesday in the effort dubbed Operation Leader, so-named after a successful air attack against German shipping vessels in World War II.

“Operation Leader damaged the German war effort by considerably disrupting the German convoy system,” Southern Pines police Chief Bob Temme said in a news release. “Today, we have disrupted an extensive drug trafficking syndicate and convoy system in Southern Pines. Our extraordinary community is a better, safer place for all as a result of these arrests.”

Investigators learned that Lee Marvin Harris Jr., 32, of the 800 block of Sycamore Street in Aberdeen, and others who were arrested, were distributing cocaine and heroin in Southern Pines.

“This criminal activity was associated with a continuing gang-related criminal enterprise and conspiracy,” the release said.

Harris has been identified as a “prominent member” of the “Dope Boys Clique,” or “DBC,” an organized street gang operating in the area. He has drug-related convictions dating to 2007 in Moore County and has been charged with similar offenses in Guilford County, the release said.

The investigation resulted in the execution of search warrants Tuesday at residences in Aberdeen, Southern Pines, Charlotte, Sanford and in Davie County.

Harris and his father, Lee Marvin Harris Sr., 58, were arrested after a search of the Sycamore Street residence, the release said. Both are charged with trafficking in cocaine and maintaining a drug house.

The son also is charged with possessing heroin, trafficking in opium or heroin, possession of firearm by a felon and manufacturing, selling, deliver or possessing a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school. The father is charged with possessing cocaine with intent to sell and deliver and misdemeanor possession of a drug paraphernalia.

Bail was set at $9 million for Harris Jr. and $5 million for Harris Sr.

Additional searches were done on the 1000 block of West Indiana Avenue in Southern Pines; the 11000 block of U.S. 15-501 in Aberdeen; the 5100 block of Timber Ridge Drive in Sanford; Andover Creek Drive in Charlotte; and another residence in Davie County, the release said.

Others arrested are charged with similar offenses such as trafficking in or possessing drugs to include cocaine, heroin, marijuana and methamphetamine. At least two people are accused of conducting drug activity within 1,000 feet from a school while at least one person is charged with a firearms violation.

Those charged are:

• Two Southern Pines residents, Christan Jovann Terry, Lamar Orlando Sealy, 33, Shuanda Bridges Fox, 49, Cervantes Gomez Gonzalo, age 27, Lisa Ann Duncan Hanami, 31, Calvin Deangelo Fox, 32.
